Renovated in 2000 with a new infield, dugouts and scoreboard, Kelchner Field is home to the Albright baseball team. A new warning track and outfield fence were added in 2010 to improve safety for both players and spectators.

Charles S. "Pop" Kelchner

Charles S. "Pop" Kelchner (1875-1958) was one of the most colorful of Albright characters. A student at Schuylkill Seminary, he was appointed professor of Latin and baseball coach at Albright in 1898. Students are said to have enjoyed his Pennsylvania Dutch accent while speaking Latin.

Kelchner eventually coached all sports at Myerstown. Known for his optimism, even when football scores looked like basketball scores, in favor of the opposition, he would label it a "learning experience."

Kelchner left Albright in 1919 and went on to become a scout for the Philadelphia A's and the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals. The College named the baseball field for him in 1952. In 2008 he was inducted into the Reading Baseball Hall of Fame as a baseball pioneer
