Cheerleading Competes and Trains at UCA College Summer CampTuesday, August 19, 2008 SCRANTON, PA - For the third consecutive year the Albright Cheerleading team led by Head Coach Steve Willis trained at the two-day Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) summer camp at the University of Scranton. This year’s squad was represented by 20 female cheerleaders and two male cheerleaders. The mascot program was represented by one individual, and was the first time ever that the program was brought to the camp. A total of 22 squads from up and down the east coast competed and trained at this year’s camp. Included in those teams were Villanova University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Miami (FL). The Lions used this year’s camp as way to train and perfect their routines for this upcoming season. Training sessions began in the early morning and ran all the way through to the late evening. Throughout the two days, the team was judged and critiqued by UCA staff and coaches. When it came time for their first evaluation, Albright was awarded a blue superior ribbon for their sideline routine and cheer. In the final evaluation the Albright team shined earning a perfect five out five blue superior ribbons. They were also awarded the Division II Co-ed trophy and the Mascot trophy as well. With another summer camp completed the Red and White cheerleading team is ready for another great year of not only pumping up the Albright College fans, but are once again ready to compete against some of the top squads in the nation. |
