Combined Concentrations and Special Programs
The combined area of concentration in Music Business and special programs within the Music Department provide students the opportunity to combine general liberal arts studies with more in-depth study of music or music business. Music combines easily with most concentrations, such as business administration, communications or digital media, and provides students with a strong base of core courses that enable them to continue their studies at the graduate level or to enter the job market.
Special study abroad programs in music business have been established with Victoria University (Australia) and London Metropolitan University (England). The music programs (minors) are designed to supplement students who are concentrating in areas other than music.
Co-Concentration in Music Business
Students wishing to enter the music business co-concentration will initially be placed in their choice of the music program or the music business program. Acceptance into any of the co-concentration tracks will be based on the successful completion of a jury performance examination that demonstrates minimum performance standards as established by the department.
Requirements
• MUS 120 or 122 (recommended to satisfy the general studies fine arts requirement)
• MUS 135 (211 if exempted by placement exam)
• MUS 215 & 216
• One of the following: 113, 122, 125, 126, 142
• MUS 241
• Two 300-level courses in music history, non-western music or music business
• MUS 491
Students are expected to meet requirements for credited participation in the appropriate major performing ensembles for four semesters (eight for Talent Grant recipients) and to study their major instrument or voice for four semesters (MUS 109). Music business co-concentrators, especially those combining music business with the international business track in business administration, are encouraged to study abroad one semester. Information on the Victoria and London University programs, along with additional study abroad opportunities, are available through the Career Development Center.

• The music courses approved by the department
• Four semesters of 109
• Four semesters (eight for Talent Grant recipients) of appropriate performing ensemble are also required.
It is recommended that students fulfill their interdisciplinary requirements from other departmental offerings.
Music Business Program
Requirements
• MUS 120 or 122 (recommended to satisfy the general studies fine arts requirement)
• MUS 135 (211 if exempted by placement exam)
• One of the following: 113, 122, 125, 126
• MUS 215 & 216
• One music or music business elective (may include four semesters of 109)
An internship (MUS 491) in the appropriate area is encouraged. It is recommended that students fulfill their interdisciplinary requirements from other departmental offerings.
