Upcoming Exhibitions

Richard Hamwi: JourneyRichard Hamwi: Journey
December 1 – January 8
This solo exhibition of Richard Hamwi, M.F.A., Ph.D., and current chair of the Art Department, whose work was last seen in the gallery in 2006, features more recent work including that from his sabbatical, fall 2010, as well as earlier drawings that provide insight into the evolution of his work. Collages on loan from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Phillips Collection and the Palmer Art Museum of Penn State University will be included. Hamwi’s vibrant and rich works will provide a bright spot of cheer and intensity to chase away winter’s chill.

- Thursday, December 1, 4 – 5 p.m., Panel Discussion, Klein Hall - EE
- Thursday, December 1, 5 – 6:30 p.m., Opening Reception, Freedman Gallery - EE
- Mondays, 4 p.m., Afterschool Art Program, $5 per child

Day Job
January 26 – March 4, Freedman Gallery
Twenty emerging artists included in the “Viewing Program” registry of The Drawing Center, New York, explore the relationship between their day jobs and their creative practice. Rather than subscribing to the belief that having a job steals time and is disruptive of the artists creative process, the works included illustrate how artists use information, skills, ideas, working conditions, or materials they encounter on the job to become a source of artistic influence.

  • Thursday, January 26, 6 p.m., Lecture by Curator, Nina Katchadourian, Klein Hall – EE
  • Thursday, January 26, 7 – 8:30 p.m., Opening Reception, Freedman Gallery – EE
  • Mondays, 4 p.m., Afterschool Art Program, $5 per child

Nurturing Nature – SC
March 20 – April 15, Freedman Gallery
Based on an exhibition held at the OSilas Gallery, Concordia College, N.Y., last spring, the artists included use the natural environment as both subject and material in their exploration of the creative process. Sustainability, endangered species, and the beauty, utility, and diversity of nature are all themes explored in the works presented. Curated by Patricia Miranda and Amy Lipton.
