Early Childhood (Pre-K to 4) Certification

Pre-requisites:

  • General Studies course requirements - 1 Composition, 2 Math, 1 Literature, 1 US History, 1 Lab Science – must have a C or better in each.  If you are missing any of these, they must be taken prior to starting grad. classes
  • 2.8 GPA required for admission – 3.0 GPA needed at time of student teaching (if below a 2.8, student must meet provisional requirements for full acceptance)
  • Pass scores on Praxis I tests – reading, writing, and math

ECE 630 Teacher Researcher:  Assessment in the Early Education Classroom
ECE 650 Intro to Early Childhood Education: Applied Child Development
ECE 651 Foundations of Early Literacy and Language Development
ECE 652 Literacy Instruction in the Primary (K-4) Classroom
ECE 653 PK-4 Mathematics Methods and Assessment
ECE 654 PK-4 Science & Health Methods and Assessment
ECE 655 PK-4 Social Studies Methods and Assessment
SPE 520 The Inclusive Early Childhood Classroom (4 credit course – meets 4 hours per week)
SPE 521 Assessment and Adaptation: Children with Special Needs (4 credit course)

190 hours of classroom observation must also be completed prior to student teaching
