The Freedman Gallery is considered one of the premier exhibition venues outside of Philadelphia. It garners regional and national attention with its emphasis on contemporary and international work of social and historical importance. The exhibitions are funded in part through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Silverweed Foundation, and the generosity of The Friends of the Freedman Gallery, a community group.

In addition, the Friends’ support provides educational programming for school children and adults through workshops, tours, unique discovery guides and exhibition brochures.
