Last night around 11:00 p.m., two male non-students arrived on campus uninvited and created a disturbance.  They accosted a male student unknown to them on Bern Street near the tunnel and punched him several times.  An alert Public Safety student officer reported the incident.

Public Safety officers responded and Reading PD was dispatched.  Public Safety officers quickly located the suspects.   The officers approached the two individuals who had assaulted the student.  The suspects were aggressive towards the officers.  Public Safety officers sprayed the suspects with pepper mace.  One of the suspects was handcuffed and detained by Public Safety until he was turned over to Reading PD.  The suspect was charged by Reading PD with assault, trespassing, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, and underage drinking.  The other suspect fled.

Albright College Public Safety is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Students may stop in to talk to an officer at any time, or may call 610-921-7670/7671.

Between 11:00 and 11:10 p.m. last night, an Albright student decided to go for a walk and was walking alone at 12th and Bern Streets by Shirk Stadium.  The student was walking along listening to music wearing headphones heading toward the Giant.  The student was accosted by a group of young males.  At first, he thought it may be friends fooling around.  The suspects went through the student’s pockets, took a cell phone, bank cards and an expired driver's license that was in an Altoids can.  There were 3 or 4 Latino males; one displayed a black handgun.  Suspects appeared to be younger Latinos.  They kept saying, "keep calm. close your eyes."

Albright College Public Safety has assigned additional officers to patrol the campus area during the late evening and early morning hours.

Capt. Stephen Powell, Reading Police Department Patrol Division, has reported that the Reading City PD had assigned additional units to patrol the campus area over the midnight shift. Reading PD is actively following up on leads provided by students and residents.

The College provides a shuttle every night until 3 a.m. which will take students to and from the designated frequent stops in and around the college.

Albright College Public Safety is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Students may stop in to talk to an officer at any time, or may call 610-921-7670/7671.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 25th,  at around 2:30 a.m., an Albright student was walking on Richmond Street towards the WAWA convenience store.  The male student was approached by three males wearing black hooded sweatshirts, blue jeans and sneakers who did not appear to be students. They were described as two Hispanic males and one Caucasian Male in their late teens or early twenties. The Caucasian male had short spiked blond hair. When they were close to the student one of them said "hey" and then the Caucasian male reached in his pocket and pulled out a cell phone size electric stun gun. He then activated it and attempted to lunge forward to shock the student. At that time the student jumped back to avoid being shocked and ran toward the WAWA store. The student was not injured.  The student stated that the three males started to laugh and continued to walk towards 13th Street. The student came in to report this activity Sunday night and will be reporting the event to the Reading City Police Department today.

Public Safety contacted Reading PD last night to share the information and Reading PD will follow up.  The College provides a shuttle every night up until 3 a.m. which will take students to and from the WAWA as part of the designated frequent stops.

Last night at around 1:30 a.m. two Albright students were walking home from the Goose House Bar at 10th and Exeter Streets in Reading City, Berks County.  The students engaged four younger males in a conversation as they were mistaken for other students.

In the area of 11th and Amity Streets these individuals approached the two students and one of the male non-students struck both the students with a fist knocking both to the ground.  The male non-students then left this location.

A short time later two males, one of a similar description, were seen in the vicinity of 12th and Amity Streets where a .40 caliber handgun was fired into the ground on the street.

Reading Police responded and are investigating both incidents.

The Reading Police as well as Albright College Public Safety will be increasing patrols in this area.

Students were treated later in the day at the Gable Health Center and returned to classes.

One of the most prevalent crime trends in all communities across America involves thefts from vehicles.  Please remember to remove any backpacks, laptops, cameras, cellular telephones, IPods, GPS, and any other items from the interior of your car whether you are at a mall, shopping center, in front of your house or driveway.  Also, report any suspicious persons and/or vehicles in your neighborhood to the police in your community.

Last night, there were two reports of two white males attempting to break into vehicles in the area. There was third younger Latino male on a bicycle who appeared to be the lookout. The bike rider was wearing a red shirt and a backpack.  Patrols responded, but these subjects were not located.  Several people in the community have stated that these young men have been in the area the last several days.

Our department works around the clock by providing frequent patrols throughout our campus and the surrounding areas, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Students may stop in to talk to an officer at any time, or may call 610-921-7670/7671.  We can also be reached via the web at www.albright.edu/resources/security under the Quick Link to Send a Message to the Director.
